Nobody can be perfect, and we had better learn to accept this reality. If it is worth doing, it is worth doing poorly; the best way to learn is to practice.
Worth doing poorly? I don’t know about you, but that is not the message I grew up with! I was told constantly if it was worth doing, it was worth doing well! Of course we want to succeed at what we do! But so many are intimidated by the threat of failure that we freeze and never engage in the challenge of learning new things!
I find this quote very liberating and empowering! It gives us permission to fail. It gives me permission to be really bad at something and improve. This is very freeing!
It is unrealistic to think we’ll be good at everything, yet that is the message and the pressure that many of us grew up with. It is healthy to give one’s self permission to be less than perfect. A laid back attitude and relaxed expectations make learning new things easier and self acceptance easier.
